Amrom Campulung to produce 4-wheel-drive vehicle for farmers
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 14 Octombrie 2008
Under a project worth some 100 million euros, of which 28 million from structural funds, the Campulung-based facility Amrom Automotive (country south) plans to start manufacturing by year-end a vehicle intended for farmers. Built on the ARO chassis and powered by Ford engines, this will be a four-wheel-drive vehicle equipped with Ford V6 engines on gas or LPG. The Ford engine is produced in Europe.
Company director Mihai Ciobanu says that the facility is already working on the completion of the technical solutions, the prototype and the homologation thereof.
'We already contacted the German producer before the start of the Ford project in Craiova and we already have agreements signed for the supply of this equipment,' explained Ciobanu, whom weekly Saptamana financiara cites as saying that the documentation is ready and a functional model has already been built, which is now due for homologation. The process is expected to end by year-end.
The vehicle designed by Amrom is intended for farmers and farming use.
At the end of February 2007 the company acquired for RON 3.66 million (1.05 million euros) the land and buildings held by ARO with the Research Centre for Romanian Automotives (CESAR). Apart from Financial Investment Companies SIF) Oltenia, SIF Moldova and Lemar Invest, which hold 18.3 pct, 0.83 pct and 2.57 pct of its stake respectively, some business heavyweights also count among the company shareholders, such as Vladimir Soare - former National Bank vice-governor and member in the Private Pensions System Supervisory Commission; Claudiu Cercel Duca - chairman of the BRD Asset Management Board, and Dan Ion Dragoi, former representative of Balli Co. in Romania.
Amrom seeks other powerful partners to team up with, eying foreign companies that expressed interest in its initiative. 'We have been keeping contact for some time now, but everybody is waiting to see the prototype first,' said the company representative.
ARO, the only Romanian company that produced all-terrain vehicles, was put into private hands in July 2003.
