CCIB intensifies economic relations with countries outside the EU
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 20 Octombrie 2008
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bucharest (CCIB) will cooperate with Georgia's Embassy in Bucharest, in drawing up projects apt to lead to an intensification of the Romanian-Georgian trade, reads a press release from CCIB.
The action is part of a programme of relaunch of the economic and cooperation links of Bucharest firms with partners from the countries which are not EU members.
The trade between the two countries stands at only 90 million dollars. CCIB head Sorin Dimitriu and Georgian ambassador to Romania and the Republic of Moldova Levan Metreveli said, during recent talks, at the headquarters of CCIB, that there are development opportunities for the economic ties between the two countries.
A first level of cooperation identified by the CCIB head is that of energy, the Romanian party can participate in the upgrading of refineries in Georgia, as well as in the building of reservoirs in that country. The development of cooperation in the light industry (textiles, footwear) should not be neglected, neither should be cooperation as regards ecological products (wine, fruits, vegetables).
Another way of intensifying the economic ties between the two countries is the setting up of joint ventures, a formula by which the credibility of the two partners is verifiable, allowing for the funding of business from sources others than those of the investors.
The CCIB head mentioned the possibility of student exchanges between education institutes in the two countries, as well as the opportunity of participation of Georgian young specialists in a series of programmes of Master of Business Administration, run in Romania by Romanian universities, in cooperation with prestigious institutions in France, Britain and the United States.
Sorin Dimitriu asked support from the Georgian Embassy in Bucharest, for facilitating contacts between CCIB and the Chamber of Commerce of Tbilisi and between the National Chamber of Romania and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia, for the signing of protocols. In a second stage, the chambers of the two countries are to get involved in concrete actions, such as the organization of economic missions and of business forums, participation in trades and exhibitions.
