Hotel market to see another boom in two years, says Ramada Plaza manager
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 22 Octombrie 2008
The local hotel market could see another boom similar to the last year just in two years time, in the context of the keeping on the current occupancy level in the operational units and of the temporary reduction of far-reaching investments in new extensive projects.
'I believe the hotel market will reach a level similar with that of 2008 in 2009, with a plus or minus 2 percent variation. Last year was incredible, with very good revenues and it was normal that we should see a smaller increase against 2007. Such growth cycles come at certain time intervals, and I believe Romania will have a boom like last year in 2010, should infrastructure investments are operated,' Daniel Ben-Yehuda, the general manager of four-star hotels Ramada Plaza and Parc, was quoted as saying by Ziarul financiar daily.
He added that there will not be many projects on the hotel market in the following period, given the international context. 'As for investments in the hotel industry people will prove a lot of cautiousness and not very big projects are expected', said Ben-Yehuda.
He said that Ramada Plaza Hotel, which registered a 48 percent occupancy rate after six months, will see a traffic add up during the following period.
'I am upbeat as regards the hotel's 2009 results. I believe that multinationals will adjust their budgets due to the crisis, but that will not mean they will stop sending employees in the countries significant for the company. I rather believe that those who preferred five-star hotels will shift to four-star ones and we will stand to gain', said Yehuda.Parc company, including Bucharest hotels Ramada Plaza and Parc, will register turnover worth 14 million euros this year, according to estimates from the company's representatives, with event and food & beverages segments to contribute by around 30 percent, Parc accommodation revenues by 30 percent and Ramada Plaza revenues by around 30 percent. 'Parc hotel will be less affected by the crisis, as 60 percent of customers are Romanians,' says Yehuda, who believes Romania is an important market for many companies and will not feel the crisis fallout as strongly as Italy, France or Great Britain. In Romania, Ramada brand is represented by Trend Hospitality Consulting & Management company, which has affiliated till now six hotels under this brand on the local market, three in the Capital and one each in Brasov (center), Sibiu (center) and Iasi (north-east).
Refurbishment of the former Turist hotel in the Capital was also finalized this year, turned into Ramada Plaza.
Ramada Plaza has a 300-room capacity and Best Western Park, the neighboring hotel ,which next year will enter under Ramada umbrella, as well, has 267 rooms.
