Bascov Passage inaugurated yesterday

The passage has a total length of 760 m and runs underneath the railway Pitesti-Curtea de Arges and the junction from Bascov.
The underground road passage from Bascov, Arges County, was officially inaugurated yesterday, in the presence of the Minister of Transports, Ludovic Orban, Agerpres informs. Immediately after the official inauguration, the passage was open for road traffic, the first vehicle invited in the tunnel being a long one.
The passage, with a total length of 760 m, of which 230 m of covered tunnel, runs underneath the railway Pitesti-Curtea de Arges and the junction from Bascov. The works which rose to EUR 14 M, started in December 2007, the deadline announced initially for the finalization of the investment being October 15, 2008. Ludovic Orban announced also yesterday at Bascov that the feasibility study for Pitesti-Sibiu expressway segment was approved by the technical and economic council of the National Expressways and Road Company, Agerpres informs. "The technical and economic council of the company approved the feasibility study for Pitesti-Sibiu expressway segment. (...) The estimated value is EUR 3 bln, there are 116 km. My intention is to build it based on a contract through which the works are granted under concession, like Comarnic-Brasov segment," Orban declared at the inauguration of the underground road passage from Bascov.
The auctioning procedures should be started before December 1, based on the feasibility study, immediately after the approval of the technical and economic indicators by the Government. "Sibiu-Pitesti segment is essential, because it is included in 4th Pan-European Corridor and was the only segment which was not prepared and did not have funding," Ludovic Orban also said.
The works could begin in October 2009.
