Great number of investors have less than 7,000 euros on Stock exchange

The majority of investors in Romania play on the Bourse amounts below the compensation ceiling of 7,000 euros, just 24 percent of the total of 92,100 accounts registered with the brokerage companies holding placements above this ceiling, shows statistics of the Investors Compensation Fund (FCI) at the end of the first half of the year. Total value of portfolios amounts at 3.9 billion euros.

'Of the calculation made by the Fund based on compensated investments it results that it can compensate investments made by approximately 16,800 investors, including both funds in cash and financial instruments', Stefan Chirtu, FCI executive manager is quoted as saying by Ziarul financiar daily.

Taking into account just the investors' cash funds, where defrauding is more likely than in the case of financial instruments. FCI can cover from own resources the cash funds of 69,000 investors.

In the first half of the year, the number of investors on the Bourse recorded a 5 percent increase, under conditions in which last year the number of investors rose by 34 percent, to 87,664.
