Marcegaglia iron and steel company to invest more than 50 million euros in a factory in Cluj County
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 23 Octombrie 2008
Italian iron and steel producer Marcegaglia is contemplating building a factory at the Tetarom III Industrial Park of Cluj County that will manufacture airbags and steel protection systems for the automotive industry, on an investment of between 50 and 80 million euros.
'Marcegaglia is an important investor, not just because it is ranked among the largest of the world's iron and steel producers, but also because it will create many jobs in Cluj County and invest some tens of millions of euros in the area,' Cluj County Council Chairman Alin Paunel Tise told daily Ziarul financiar on Wednesday.
Tise also confirmed that Marcegaglia has concluded an agreement with the Cluj County Council for a factory in the industrial park, without offering details of the investment's value.
Construction on the factory will start this November and complete in September 2009.
Cluj county officials say the Italian company has requested to take under lease 10 hectares of land for a production facility, and that this area is available in the Tetarom III park.
'Although the Italian company is not in the same category as the other investors operating in the Tetarom industrial parks, the Marcegaglia project will not affect the environment, although it will operate in the area of iron and steel,' says Tise.
Cluj County officials also says Marcegaglia intends to manufacture airbags and safety units for both foreign and the local markets.
'The company's officials have assured us that they have the funds needed for the carrying out of the investment plans in Cluj and said they will not have to raise a loan for that,' says Tise.
There are three public industrial parks in Cluj County - Tetarom I, II and III which, according to the company's management, will draw in total investments in excess of 500 million euros.
In relation to the Tetarom III Industrial Park, the chairman of the Cluj County Council told weekly magazine Saptamana Financiara that nearly 8.3 million euros were earmarked for important infrastructure works August-September that include lighting, roads and a water treatment plant.
Tetarom III covers nearly 160 million hectares, 90 hectares of which have been occupied by Nokia and its suppliers, and the rest is available for new investors.
According to the Tetarom management, the project for the fourth industrial park will be signed in the period immediately ahead that will cover some 170 hectares.
