Some 30 billion euros to be invested in efficient energy use by 2020

As much as 15 billion euros will be invested in the efficient use of energy in the next four years and up to 30 billion euros by 2020, Minister of Economy and Finance Varujan Vosganian told the annual GIE conference on Thursday.
'In order to increase efficiency we shall attract investments in the energy field amounting to 15 billion euros in the next four years and 30 billion euros by 2020', Vosganian said.
The investments will refer to doubling the production capacity of Nuclearelectrica's nuclear power plant and partnerships of Termoelectrica company for the units located in Galati, Braila, Borzesti (eastern Romania) amounting to 3.4 billion euros, the minister said. 'The thermo-electric power stations in Oltenia (southern Romania) will benefit from investments ranging from 3 billion to 4 billion euros', Vosganian announced.
He also said that Romania is currently using half of its hydroelectric potential.
According to Vosganian, the Romanian strategy in the energy sector aims to create the infrastructure necessary for the connection with the neighboring countries such as Hungary, Bulgaria, but also the states in the Middle East, Africa and the Caspian Sea.
