Winner of tender for building a motorway between Comarnic and Brasov to be chosen in early 2009

The consortium which will lease the Comarnic-Brasov motorway segment (center of Romania) will be chosen at the start of 2009, Transport minister Ludovic Orban said on Wednesday.
'Tomorrow (on Thursday), a meeting will be held with the four consortia for setting the sure date for submitting the final bids, and in about a month after that date the winner will be announced,' said the Transport minister.
He added that one of the four consortia still in the race for the design, construction and operation of this segment has challenged the date initially set for submitting the offers, namely Nov 17.
The consortia still in the race are Vinci (France) and Aktor (Greece), Colas and Bouygues (France), Bilfinger Berger (Germany, Porr (Austria) and Strabag (Austria).
For the construction of the Comarnic-Brasov segment, 12 bids were initially submitted, with the biggest construction companies getting associated to win the tender.
Among the 12 consortia, there were Astaldi (Italy) - FCC (Spain) - Alpine (Austria), Swietelsky (Austria), which leads a consortium including Romanian companies Delta ACM and Euro Construct Trading, a consortium led by Portuguese company Mota Engil, the French-Hungarian consortium Eiffage - Vegyepszer, the Italians from Impregilo-Itinera, the Greek consortium J&P Avax and Athena. Two consortia from Israel have joined the tender.
According to the National Company of Motorways and National Roads in Romania, the winner of the tender will design, build and maintain the motorway for a period of some 30 years, with the costs for design and construction being estimated at around one billion euros (without VAT).
The Comarnic-Brasov motorway segment will have a length of 58 km, it will include 57 bridges, passages and viaducts, as well as spaces and services, it is to be designed for speeds between 80 and 120 km per hour.
