Central Bank: Overdue debts two times higher year-on-year

Overdue debts in Romania hit RON 2.15 bln (577 million euros) at the end of September, up 117 pct from the same month of 2007; almost three quarters of the amount are past due date loans in local lei, reveals data from the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

Backlog retail and corporate debts stood at RON 990 million.

Bucharest residents and companies piled up RON 630 million in backlog loans, ranking first by the amount of loans engaged, with RON 67.9 bln (18.2 bln euros) at the end of September; foreign currency loans account for more than two thirds of this figure.

Second after Bucharest by the amount of past due date loans is Brasov County with RON 121.4 million (32.5 million euros), followed by Bihor County with RON 94.7 million (25.35 million euros) in retail and corporate loan overdues. Next in the ranking is Timis County with RON 75 million (20.1 million euros), followed by Cluj County with RON 70.4 million (18.9 million euros).
