Foreign direct investments gross bln 7.25 euros in 2007

Foreign direct investments (FDI) in Romania totaled 7.25 billion, euros in 2007, 2.22 billion being capital subscriptions, Romania's National Bank (BNR) reports. The reinvested net profit amounted to 1.327 billion euros, namely 18 percent and the net credit received from the foreign investors totaled 3.703 billion euros, namely 51 percent.
FDI final balance on Dec 31, 2007 stood at 42.77 billion euros, 31.501 billion euros being share capital (74 percent) and 11.269 billion euros the net loans from the foreign investors (26 percent).FDI mainly went to the processing industry (32.9 percent of the total), the most attractive branches being the steel and iron industry - 7.5 percent, the food industry, the drinks and the tobacco industry (5,2 percent), crude oil, chemicals, rubber and plastics makers (4.4 percent), transportation means industry (3.6 percent) and the concrete, glass and ceramics industry (3.5 percent).
Territorially speaking, most of the FDI went to Bucharest- Ilfov County - 64.3 percent, 8,3 percent to the Central Romania, 6.9 percent to Southern Romania, 5.7 percent to South East and 5.5 percent to western Romania.
In terms of FDI balance, the first five foreign investors in Romania, on Dec 31, 2007, were as follows: Austria by 21.4 percent, compared to 23 percent in 2006, the Netherlands by 16.3 percent, than 17.1 percent in 2006, Germany - 11.7 percent, France 8.8 percent compared to 8 percent in 2006, and Greece by 7.5 percent the same as in 2006. FDI were allocated contingent on the origin country of the shareholder owning at least ten percent of the share capital of the companies the foreign direct investments went to.
