Most attractive economic branches for direct foreign investments in Romania

The processing industry attracted about a third of overall direct foreign investments at the end of 2007, the most attractive industries being metallurgy and the food industry, the beverage and tobacco industries, according to BNR data.
Statistics made by BNR and INS foreign direct investments amounted to 42.77 billion euros at the end of 2007, of which 31.50 billion euros (74%) represented participations to social capital and the rest of 11.27 billion euros consisted of the net credit received from foreign investors.In point of the orientation of foreign investors to economic branches, direct foreign investments were oriented toward the processing industry - metallurgical industry -7.5%, food industry - 5.2%, crude processing , chemical products, rubber and plastic material - 4.4%, transport means industry - 3.6%, cement, glass and ceramics - 3.5%.On 31 December 2007, direct foreign investments in industry were 17.4 billion euros, representing 40.7% . Investments of 14.07 billion euros were directed towards the processing industry, electric, thermal energy, water and has. Other activities which attracted direct foreign investments in 2007 were financial deals and insurance , representing 23.3% (9.96 billion euros), retail and wholesale trade 14% - 5.97 billion euros) real estate and constructions (7.8% - 3.33 billion euros and telecommunications - 6.5% - 2.78 billion euros.
Immobilizations were 21.4 billion euros at the end of 2007 and represented 50% of overall direct foreign investments bringing a significant degree of stability of direct foreign investments.
Economic activities where foreign investments are significant are industry (26.8%), processing industry - 20.4%, wholesale and retail trade -7.2%, telecommunications -4.5%.
More than half of direct foreign investments had in view projects starting from scratch55.3% -23.7 billion euros of direct foreign investments in 2007 represented investments starting from scratch - Greenfield investments. In industry, 7.32 billion euros were used for such investments, of which 6.62 billion euros were in the processing industry.Other important direct foreign investments in Greenfield projects were 5.4% billion euros, representing over 90%, in fiscal deals and real estate transactions (2.3 billion euros 70% of total and post and telecommunications. (1.4 billion euros - 51.4% of the total).
ISD firms made 70.8% of exports and 59.2% of importsAccording to BNR and INS statistics the activity of direct foreign investments has a positive impact on Romania's balance of trade, the contribution of exports being 70.8% and 20.6 billion euros while imports while for imports they are 59.7% - 29.7 billion euros. FOB exports of firms made by direct foreign investments in the industrial field amounted to 18.3 billion euros, over 77% of them being made by the processing industry. Retail and wholesale trade have contributed to the total value of exports made by enterprises from direct foreign investment- 1.9 billion euros, while other activities led to exports of 414 million euros.CIF imports of firms created by direct foreign investments amounted to 18.1 billion euros. Over 78% of them - 17.3 billion euros represented imports in the processing industry. In the retail and wholesale trade sector firms created from direct foreign investments imported 9.6 billion euros while in other activities their imports amounted to 1.9 billion euros.
Statistics investigated 5918 companies , including companies with at least 20 employees (5760) units, all credit institutions of foreign capital *38 units) all insurance companies with foreign capital and atypical companies.
