Yahoo! Romania, one of the strongest markets for the company

Yahoo! intends to intensify its activity in Romania, one of the strongest markets for the company, writes daily Business Standard, quoting Marvin Liao, sales development director Yahoo! Emerging Markets.

Liao also said the position held by the company at local level, the traits of the Romanian users and the potential of the market are some of the assets offered by Romania.

'Sure, we intend to be much more active in the market in Romania. It is one of the strongest markets for us. It is also a market which keeps developing at high speed. It would be a mistake from us not to do something in this respect, ' said the Yahoo! official.

He added that although in the region there are countries using online volumes much higher than those in the local market, in Romania, Yahoo! has the advantage of its position. 'Poland and the Czech Republic are important markets in point of value, and, of course, we want to be important, as players, there, as well. Nevertheless, in Romania, Yahoo! holds a much better position, and it is much better to operate from a position of force, ' said Liao.

With reference to the difference between Romanian users and users in the countries in its region, Marvin Liao remarked the advantages of the local market.

'The Romanian users are more involved in the relation with the product. There also is an affinity in point of brand: Yahoo! is very strong in Romania. It is true, there are more strong countries in the region, but the Romanian market is one of the strongest, ' said Liao.

Statistics put forth by the Yahoo! officials show that seven in ten Romanians are using on a daily basis Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Messenger services, and over 97 percent of them are using Yahoo! Messenger as a means of communication.

There are eight million active e-mail accounts, they are accounts used at least once a month. As regards the only users of Yahoo! services, they amount to some four or five million.

From the users, 52 percent are men, and 48 percent are women. As much as 44 percent of Romanians started to use Yahoo! five years ago.

In point of origin of users of Yahoo! services, most of them come from the urban area, according to daily Ziarul Financiar, 25 percent of them are from Bucharest, seven percent from Iasi (north-east), five percent from Cluj-Napoca, center-west, and four percent from Timisoara, west.
