Tragoviste stainless steel maker stops activity temporarily

The step has come on the background of the drastic slash in the orders, Otelinox trade unions head Dumitru Paraschiva said.

About 95 percent of the 890 employees that the Company numbers, are currently on technical unemployment.

All the employees are affected by the decision the Company's officials have made. Only one third of the employees, namely one shift of three, will work in the packing and delivery department. People are extremely discontent because winter holidays are near and they have loans to pay back and home maintenance fees will soar, while they are jobless or get lower salaries right now, trade unions head told Agerpres.

According to him, Otelinox officials will decide by Nov 20, whether the technical unemployment goes on in December as well.

Otelinox manufactures stainless steel strips and sheets, which go to export.

Samsung Deutschland bought the Company's majority package in Oct 1997.
