The department for tourism of the Ministry for Small and Medium Companies, Trade and Liberal Trades (MIMMCTPL) has taken this year significant moves for the drawing up of the Satellite Account in Romania and the creation and promotion of a national tourist brand over 2008-2010. It has also finalized legal moves for the devising of a strategy of ecoturism and spa tourism, minister-state secretary for tourism Lucia Nora Morariu announced, on Monday, in Cluj-Napoca, center-west.

The most important project run in 2008 was that about the tourism events and fairs in Romania and abroad, with the sum allocated standing at around 2.8 million euros. 'It has been the year when Romania invested the most in participation in tourism fairs abroad. We started in 2007 and continued in 2008, thinking to participate in any tourism fair in Romania. Unfortunately, in the past years, this was not a habit, because, people wrongly believed that this is not necessary. We have succeeded to change this view, ' said Morariu.
2008 was the second year when Romania participated in a project on 'European Destinations of Excellence,' its theme is 'National parks and cultural parks, ' which has been proposed by Romania, Morariu said.
Moves have been made for the modification and updating of the legislation on ski slopes, in cooperation with public local authorities, the Federation of Biathlon Ski in Romania, Mountain Rescue Romania and experts in the field.
Preparations are being made for Romania's participation, with status of partner country, in an international tourism fair, CMT 2009, in Stuttgart.
Cooperation relations have been carried out this year with all the international bodies and organizations Romania is member of, namely the World Organization for Tourism, the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development, the European Commission for Tourism, the European Commission, the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, the Central European Initiative, Die Donau. The actions included participation in the main events run by them, presentation of themes about tourism in Romania.
Bilateral links have been carried out with more than 40 countries, among them there were Austria, Belgium, China, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, India, Norway, the Netherlands, Russia, etc. Lucia Morariu stressed, in context, the good links with Hungary. In early Nov 2008, a meeting of the Romanian-Hungarian there was held at Gyula, Hungary, a meeting of the Romanian-Hungarian commission on cooperation in the field of tourism, high on the agenda there were topics regarding health tourism, ecotourism, rural tourism, education, marketing and the EU funds.
A draft for the allocation of funds for 2007-2013, for 'Promotion of the tourist potential and the creation of the necessary infrastructure, with a view to increasing the attractiveness of Romania as a tourist destination' stands at over 150 million euros, said Morariu. The sum is divided for three operations, i.e. the creation of a positive image of Romania, as a tourist destination, by defining and promoting the national tourist brand (75 million euros); the development and consolidation of domestic tourism, by supporting the promotion of tourist products and specific marketing activities (over 55 million euros); the setting up of national centers for tourist information and promotion, and their equipping (20 million euros).
