Gov't sets up working group to approve measures for smooth functioning of the banking system

The Government decided on Wednesday to set up a working group of Cabinet members, banking officials and officials of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) to come up with measures to secure the smooth running of the local banking system.

According to a Government press release, the working group would come up with a master plan comprising measures for the optimal running of the banking system circumscribed to the Government economic growth and employment programme.

'This group is mandated to identify the optimal solutions amidst the ongoing global economic crisis to break the deadlock in the Romanian banking system and to find adequate solutions for providing liquidity for the banking system,' said Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu.
