RWE: We've set no limit for investments in Romania
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 25 Noiembrie 2008
German energy company RWE says it has no limit set for its investments in Romania, even in the context of the current financial crisis, also saying the local market is important for the Group's future plans, the head of the RWE division for wind energy for the Balkans and Turkey Frank Falkenhof told Business Standard on Monday.
'We own enough liquidities, as we have pursued a conservative policy. We weren't affected as much as other companies were, which came to the situation not to have liquidities available for investments. We don't need to revise our investments,' Falkenhof said.
Referring to the projects on the Romanian market, the RWE official said the German Group is currently discussing with six-seven developers of wind energy on the domestic market hoping to conclude a series of negotiations next year.
'With regards to wind energy, we have set no target. We are just watching the changes in the laws on the support of the production and use of renewable energy, the green certificates scheme, things which influence our decisions,' Falkenhof said.
He also added that RWE is currently in talks with the local partners on such projects to generate energy from hydro and biomass sources.
Moreover, the company is interested in investing in the coal-running thermal plants, either by itself or in partnership.
According to the Facts and Figures 2008 report of the RWE, quoted by the abovementioned daily, the German Group strategically targets building of a new position on the market in South-East Europe, such as Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey or Greece, especially in the renewable energy field (wind and hydro).
With regards to the nuclear energy, RWE considers one of its main opportunities on the local market is represented bythe project to build reactors 3 and 4 at the Cernavoda plant (south-east), estimated to reach 4 billion euros, in which it holds a participation of 9.15 percent, according to an agreement signed last week.
RWE intends to open an office in Romania in the interval ahead.
