Non-governmental credit down 0.6 percent in October

The non-governmental credit disbursed by credit institutions dropped 0.6 pct (- 1.6 pct in real terms) in October 2008 from September 2008, to 193.063 billion lei, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) announced in a Tuesday release to Agerpres.
The credit in local lei inched up 0.6 pct (- 0.4 pct in real terms), whereas the foreign currency credit expressed in lei lost 1.5 pct (expressed in euros, the foreign currency credit went up 0.4 pct).
The credit in lei disbursed to households hit 41.37 bln lei, up 0.9 pct from September 2008 and 29 pct higher from the similar period of the year before. The credit in lei to judicial persons (non-financial companies and non-monetary institutions) stood at 44.47 bln lei in October, up 0.4 pct from September and by 36.4 pct above from the figure registered in the same period of the year before.
Expressed in lei, the non-governmental foreign currency credit disbursed to the population stood at 54.38 bln lei, down 1.2 pct from September, but by 74.4 pct higher than in the similar period of 2007. Expressed in lei, the non-governmental foreign currency credit to judicial persons totaled 52.82 bln lei, by 1.9 pct less compared to September 2008 and by 41 pt higher than in October 2007.
Compared to Oct. 31, 2007, the non-governmental credit was by 44.8 pct higher (34.8 pct in real terms) as a result of the 32.7 pct increase in the local currency component (23.6 pct in real terms) and of the 56.2 pct growth in the foreign currency component expressed in lei (expressed in euros, the growth in the foreign currency credit was 42.3 pct).
The governmental credit (of central and local administrations, administrations of social security systems) increased 4.2 pct in October, topping 12 bln lei. On Oct. 31, 2008 the governmental credit was by 35.2 pct higher (25.9 pct in real terms) year-on-year.
