ING Group and MasterCard bring payment via mobile phone in Romania

ING Mobile Payments service is to be launched in Romania for the first time in December 2008, representing the newest payment modality currently used on the Romanian market, reads a release of ING Romania.
Romania is the first location ING Group would test the solution based on the Maestro PayPass system and was selected from 50 countries the bank operates in.
ING Mobile Payments was developed in partnership with MasterCard, Collis, Toro, Venyon and Nokia. The service is currently being implemented in several partner units in Romania.
'ING Romania is currently launching the first stage of the pilot-programme ING Mobile Payments following that, after an evaluation of the reaction of the consumer and traders, to develop it. In a few years payment via the mobile phone is to become something usual and we are proud ING and Romania were the first in the region to do that,' Albert Roggemans, CEO ING Retail Romania.
Although payment via mobile phone is already used in France, UK, US, Taiwan and South Korea, the ING Mobile Payments product to be launched in Romania represents also a premiere worldwide. The innovative solution offered by ING and MasterCards is the single offering the client the possibility to charge his phone card too, without going to the bank.
