APDRP: Payments to exceed 1 bln euros in 2008

The Agency of Payments for Rural Development and Fishery (APDRP) pledges to pay to the rural beneficiaries over 514.4 million euros, out of which 446.8 million euros has been paid so far and the remainder of 67.6 million euros is to be paid by the end of the year, APDRP informs.
As much as 391.6 million euros come from the EU budget and the rest of 122.8 million euros from Romania's budget.The agriculture and rural development investment projects are worth 334.7 million euros and 179.7 million euros are direct payments that farmers are given through the Payments and Intervention Agency for Agriculture (APIA).
The money for agriculture and rural development is financed and paid thank to the development of the SAPARD programme through APDRP, with a contribution of 247.1 million euros by the Romanian agriculture investment programme (SAPARD) contributing 83 million euros and the National Programme of Rural Development with investment measures (4.6 million euros) and direct payments - 179.7 million euros.
'During this period, the Agency contributes to the anti-crisis efforts the Government and Romania's National Bank (BNR) make and brings over 250 million euros to the economy in Q4 of 2008. These payments mean the completion of about 500 projects and over 1,000 new jobs,' said APDRP deputy general manager Liviu Picior.
