Excises to be computed at exchange rate of 3.7364 lei for a euro in 2009

The exchange rate used for the calculation of the excises due to the state budget is of 3.7364 lei for one euro as of January 1, 2009, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) announced.

In 2008 the excises have been calculated at an exchange rate of 3.3565 lei for one euro.

According to the Fiscal Code, excises are special taxes applied to consumer goods due to the state budget for products resulted from the domestic production or import, namely beer, wines, fermented drinks other than beer and wine, intermediate products, ethyl alcohol, tobacco products and mineral oils.

The exchange rate above is also used for setting the value in lei of the first registration tax and the tax on crude oil resulted from domestic production due to the state budget and determined in its equivalent in euro.
