AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 8 Decembrie 2008
Canned meat producer Scandia Romana estimates to conclude this year with a turnover of approximately 50 million euros, and next year it stakes on a 1 percent business growth, reads Business Standard.
The company announced that next year it will relocate production from the factory in historical center of Sibiu into a new unit, to become operational in spring 2009.
'In 2009 we estimate reduced profits, given the investment in excess of 30 million euros in the new Scandia factory', Adrian Gaspar, general manager Scandia, was quoted as saying by the daily.
The new factory, built on 20,000 square meters will have a total annual production capacity of 36,000 tonnes.
The production capacity of the new canned foods facility will stand at 22,000 tonnes a year, 1,000 tonnes more than the current factory.
'We will not operate at peak capacity in the first year of business, but we hope to work at an least 60 percent capacity,' said Adrian Gaspar, quoted by Ziarul financiar.
In the first quarter of this year Scandia Romana posted a turnover of 81.6 million RON (some 22.7 million euros), up 20 percent from the same period of last year, according to company data.
Scandia estimates its exports this year at 600 tonnes of products in countries such as Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Greece and Ireland. Recently the company entered on the Hungarian market with 'Pate Sibiu' and 'Traditii' brands, sold by Auchan store chain.
Scandia Romana is controlled in a proportion of 75 percent by Elga Comert Bucharest Co., branch of Swiss Elga Suisse Alimentari, a stake of 15 percent being held by Spot Industrial Co., 5 percent by businessman Sorin Bozdog and some 4.2 percent by some other investors.
