Ford is to stimulate car industry in Romania
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 8 Decembrie 2008
Ford Romania is expected to bring a fresh air in the car industry in Romania, with the company to implement soon state-of-the-art production technologies and know-how in its plant based in Craiova (southern Romania) and also to better train the human capital on the domestic market, administrative manager with the electric car wires producer Sumitomo Electric Wiring System (SEWS) Florin Ionut told Business Standard on Monday.
Currently, the electric wires sector in Romania is one of the not so many domestic industrial sector hundred percent integrated with the global economy, which leads to a drop in the sales of new cars in the last quarter of the year by more than 25 percent beign expected to determine a cut in the production of electric wires too, the SEWS representative explained.
Referring to the impact of the international financial crisis on the electric wires sector, Florin Ionut appreciated this impact would probably be a 'major' one, with no improvement of the situation to be seen in the short interval.
'The impact is to be felt even more in the first half of 2009, when the car makers in Europe will probably close their plants and send people in technical unemployment for two or three months. We will watch then a second wave of the crisis to strike also the electric wires sector,' the SEWS representative said.
In his opinion, the cut in the production is to reach a two-digit percentage, to stand somewhere between 20 or even 50 percent.
He also added that the local players involved with the production of electric wires are not so strong in terms of finances so as to be bale to ensure only by themselves, that is with no aid from their shareholders or the state, such efficient measures of social security.
'Strengthening back of the car sector in Romania cannot be done in an isolated manner, but only together with the strengthening of the global economy,' Florin Ionut says.
In the same time, he said, due to the recession in some of the states of the European Union we cannot talk now about a crisis of the labour force in Romania.
'The Romanian market will manage to absorb the labour force that returned home from the Occident, especially in such sectors of the economy which were less affected by the first wave of the world economic crisis, such as the investments made with public money in the road infrastructure, the conventional and alternative industry, private investments in agriculture, zootechny, tourism and other services,' Florin Ionut said.
Asked whether the electric car wires producers in Romania intend to relocate their production capacities in some other eastern countries, such as Ukraine, the SEWS representative said that 'in the context Romania will fail to offer a friendly business environment or a competition to stay at European and global standards, the electric car wires producers will migrate to other regions, no doubt about it.'
