AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 11 Decembrie 2008
Euromedic healthcare provider has entered the Romanian dialysis market this year by taking over the Nefromed company, which owned two dialysis clinics, one in Cluj-Napoca and the other in Alba Iulia. Anca Petca, President of Euromedic Romania, declined to make public the value of the transaction, but according to market data, this could amount to some 5 million euros, Business Standard informs.
'The expansion of our business on the dialysis service segment is part of our strategic partnership signed this year with Nefromed Dialysis Centers. We presently have dialysis centers in Cluj, Alba Iulia, and Barlad, and we will analyze development opportunities on this segment,' Petca told Business Standard. Euromedic opened a new dialysis center in the eastern city of Barlad in November. The company also invested in an operational dialysis center in the central Romanian city of Sibiu.'Our 2008 investment budget was 12 million euros in diagnosis and 10 million euros in dialysis. We are currently focusing on centers we have already opened, but we plan to open 3-4 dialysis centers in the coming eight months,' Petca added. The healthcare provider, which has 170 medical centers in 15 European countries, half of which are operating on the dialysis segment, is expecting to register 10 million euros in business in 2008, after posting 7 million euros in turnover in 2007. Euromedic was responsible for introducing the first Positron emission CAT scan - computed CAT scan (PET-CT) to Romania, a 5-million-euro investment, and is also operating an imagery clinic network in full development.
At the global level, Euromedic was taken over by Ares Life Sciences and Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity in 2008, from its former shareholders, the Warburg investment fund and General Electric Healthcare.
