Car tax triples as of Monday

The car tax triples, as of Monday, the last day when it could be paid at the old value was Sunday, Dec 14, when the financial administrations worked until midday.
The government decided last Wednesday that the tripling of the pollution tax for second-hand cars will be applied, as of Dec 15, thus abrogating an Emergency Ordinance, adopted previously and stipulating the implementation of this tax, as of Dec 8.
Starting on the same day, provisions are applied for excepting from the obligation of the payment of the pollution tax cars with a Euro 4 pollution norm, whose engine capacity does not exceed 2,000 cubic cm, as well as vans with a Euro 4 pollution norm, registered for the first time in Romania or in any EU member country.
From Dec 15, the tax for a Euro 4 second-hand car, of 1,400 cu cm, climbs to 840 euros, compared with the current 280 euros. For a Euro 4 car, of 1,600 cu cm, the tax reaches 1,440 euros, from 480 euros. The car pollution tax for a Euro 4 car of 2,000 cubic cm rises to 2,400 euros, from 800 euros.
For e Euro 3 car, of 1,400 cu cm. the tax climbs to 2,730 euros, from 910 euros, and for a car of 1,600 cu cm, the tax rises to 4,800 euros, from 1,600 euros, and for a car of 2,000 cu cm, the tax will stand at 7,800 euros, from 2,600 euros.
The tax payers who paid the pollution tax before Dec 15 can go for car registration any time after that date, the sum remains as previously.
The procedure for car registration will be considered initiated at the date the documents are submitted to the fiscal authority, for the calculation of the pollution tax, in this case applied is the legal regime in force at the date the documents are forwarded.
