AIG Life Asigurari is named Insurer of Year in Romania

AIG Life Asigurari has been named the Insurer of the Year 2008 in Romania at an award gala organised by Piata Financiara (Financial Market) magazine, AIG Life said in a press release on Wednesday.

The award recognizes the top performances achieved by AIG Life Asigurari Romania and was gained due to the significant increase pace, the profitability and complex offer of the company.

'The prize bestowed by Piata Financiara magazine honours us and backs us in our commitment to guarantee performance in the industry of life insurance and life financial stability', AIG Life Asigurari Romania managing director Theodor Alexandrescu said.

AIG Life Romania was bestowed the prize for the Life Insurance Company of the Year in 2007 at a Gala of the Insurance Market Awards staged by PRIMM - Asigurari si Pensii magazine.

AIG Life was also awarded this year the Excellence in Education prize by LOMA, one of the best-known insurance institutions that operates in more than 80 countries and has some 1,200 member companies. The prize was bestowed on AIG Life for its achievement to enroll a very large number of its staff in the training programmes and for the extensive personnel development programme that the company constantly enforces.

AIG Life has been present in the Romanian market since 1998, therefore this year it celebrates its 10th anniversary. The company's market share in the third quarter climbed to 16.7 percent, while the company keeps on topping the rankings of life insurers that offer products that have benefits guaranteed.

The underwritten premiums at AIG Life in the first three quarters of 2008 totalled 220 million lei, i.e. a 49 percent increase, while the gross reported profit was 43 million lei, meaning more than double the profit made in the same period a year ago.
