Rulmentul Brasov assets sold for 35 mln euros
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 19 Decembrie 2008
Assets of Rulmentul platform in Brasov (center) were sold for 35 million euros at the 13th bidding session organized Thursday and the buyer is Tampa Resort, a Ploiesti (south) based company, representative of Swiss Financial Corporation.
Offered price for the acquisition of Rulmentul plant is half the initial one, of 70 million euros, gradually reduced in order to attract buyers.
For the time being, according to the project manager in charge with the sale, Toader Nicolae, the ball bearings fabrication is to be reduced and the production relocated, given that Rulmentul platform is in the neighborhood of the former tractor making plant, where investors announced the construction of the largest building complex in the zone.
Since the bidding for platform sale was launched - February 2008 - nine local and foreign companies showed interest in the company's assets by acquiring the task book, but failed to take part in the tenders organized throughout the year.
From this year-start till the end of May the platform liquidator sent information about the bidding to a number of 27 companies in the country and abroad, but just 15 investors were interested in and visited the platform.
Representatives of Cluj-Napoca Transilvania Insolvency House, the platform liquidator, stressed that during this economic and financial crisis even the sale at half price of Rulmentul assets represents a success.
Rulmentul Brasov was the largest ball bearings producer in Romania and in 1990 had a number of 9,000 employees.
But gradually the number of staff was cut to 3,000 and, on June 28, 2007, the Authority for State Assets Realization decided to restructure the company and proceed to its voluntary liquidation. All the remaining staff was made redundant and received compensations.
