Bombardier: 400 underground trains to be purchased in the next ten years

The Canadian group Bombardier Transportation forecasts that Metrorex could purchase about 300-400 underground trains in the next five-ten years, depending of the network's development.
The company is the only provider of new underground trains for Metrorex. In the first quarter of 2008, the Metrorex company was delivered to the last coach of the 264 underground coaches/44 trains.
Bombardier has sold until now some underground trains, as well as signaling and control machinery for Mainline 2.
Likewise, it is underway to deliver signaling outfits for the Mainlines 1 and 3 worth 300 million euros.
Bombardier is also interested in the tramcars' market whose potential accounts for 150-200 units, considering the necessary for new tramcars in Bucharest, Timisoara (north-west of Bucharest), Arad (north-west of Bucharest) and Iasi (north-east of Bucharest).
Bombardier is #1 worldwide in nine of the 11 market segments it activates in (tramcars/light vehicles, underground trains, regional trains, commuter trains, bogies, electric locomotives, propulsion and control systems, services, systems).
Bombardier Transportation is also interested in the 50-100 electric trains' tender which are supposed to be carried out by the CFR (Romanian Railways). Likewise, the sales of TRAXX electric engines to CFR Marfa and private operators is not overlooked by the company.
The company is already cooperating with a few Romanian companies, such as Electroputere Craiova (south-west of Bucharest), Avioane SA Craiova and IMSAT SA, and is interested in signing some other collaboration agreements with Romanian companies.
For the third quarter, the Canadian group's turnover grew by 8pc, reaching some 4,6 billion dollars. Likewise, the operational income before interests and taxes' deductions (EBIT) reached 315 million dollars, as compared to 201 million dollars in the previous fiscal year, on a rise by 96.5pc against the same period of 2007.
