Transelectrica welcomes establishment of new European organization ENTSO-E

As many as 42 European transmission system operators (TSOs) from 34 European countries, among which Transelectrica, have signed on December 19, 2008, in Brussels, the establishment charters of a new organization, called the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), so as to develop the electricity market within the European Union and to intensify TSO cooperation.
According to a release remitted to AGERPRES, ENTSO-E is headed by a Board with 12 members, representing the various regions of Europe which coordinates the Market Committee, the System Development Committee and the Operations Committee, as well as a group for legal affairs and regulatory activities. The supreme decision-making body of the organization is the general assembly.
Transelectrica is honored to be part of the newly set up organization ENTSO-E through the appointment of its general manager, Stelian Alexandru Gal, as member of this organization's Board.
ENTSO-E aims to promote electricity market integration within the EU and to create market and security of supply rules related to transmission grids in cooperation with the EU Commission and with the Agency for Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), based on a clear mandate. ENTSO-E is also to draw up ten-year plans for grid development, monitor the trend in security of supply, and prepare shared procedures to support grid operation.
ENTSO-E will become operational starting with April 2009. Up to a six-month deadline, the existing associations' functions UCTE - Union for the co-ordination of transmission of electricity and ETSO - European Transmission System Operators will be transferred within the newly created organization ENTSO-E.
