MFP: Budget deficit for 2009 to stand at 1.7-2 percent of GDP

The budget for 2009 is to be re-examined and adjusted to the new macroeconomic conditions and the budget deficit will stand at 1.70-2 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), according to a release of the Ministry of Public Finance MFP) sent to Agerpres on Wednesday.
The budget will be reconsidered on a projection of economic growth of 3.5 percent (compared to 8-9 percent in 2008), at a nominal value of the GDP of 588.1 billion lei , an average inflation of 5.3 percent and a gross average wage of 1,702 lei.
On Tuesday, minister of public finance, Gheorghe Pogea had a meeting at the headquarters of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) with governor Mugur Isarescu and other members of the executive management of BNR with a view to harmonising the joint measures and completing the forecast of macroeconomic indicators on 2009, in view to the budget's establishment.
Also on Tuesday, at the headquarters in Bucharest of the Ministry of Public Finance rounds of talks have been initialised v for the completion of the framework for drawing up of the budget and its submission to the main credit coordinators.
Some of the priorities of the Ministry of Public Finance in 2009 are the adjustment of the budget deficit and the reduction of current spending, assurance of necessary resources for financing investment programmes, ensuring of continuity of multi-annual financing of programmes and projects of investments of local and central administration, implementation of anti-crisis plan of measures with a view to ensuring macroeconomic stability and prerequisites for switching to the euro currency.
