Romgaz: Maximum natural gas production starts before EU's proposal

The natural gas production started operating at its maximum capacity, immediately after Russia had stopped the natural gas delivery to Ukraine, Romgaz general manager Francisc Toth told Agerpres, on Saturday.
'Romgaz has already put out natural gas at its maximum capacity. We have grown the production since early this week, and the European Union's suggestion comes, this time, after Romania has already acted in this respect,' Toth said.
Energy experts from the 27 EU member states proposed, on Friday, that Norway, UK, Romania and Poland should increase their natural gas production to the maximum capacity to compensate for Russia's cease of natural gas delivery to Europe, EU Commission announced.
Romgaz drills over 6 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and supplies about half of the domestic production, Petrom being the second big Romanian natural gas supplier.
Romgaz's currently owns storage capacities of 2.8 billion cu.m and it annually puts out about 6 billion cu.m natural gas.
Petrom announced on Tuesday it would daily supply more natural gas totaling about 1.3 -1,5 million cu m.
PM Emil Boc and President Traian Basescu will attend a working lunch with the EU Commission's President Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, in Brussels, on Monday.
During the meeting they will approach highly topical issues on the EU's agenda.
Romania's Economy Minister stressed it would be expressed a stance on the EU recommendations for the natural gas situation after the meeting in Brussels.
Romania's natural gas consumption amounts to 59.97 million cu.m. per day. The stored stock is 2.18 billion cu.m and the daily production stands at 33 million cu.m, Economy Ministry sources say.
