Electrica to become energy supplier from alternative sources
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 15 Ianuarie 2009
Electricity distributor Electrica is to sell, till next year-end, the first power quantities derived from alternative sources. The company strategy provides the construction of wind turbine stations, based on biomass and micro hydro power stations, going to invest more than 600 million euros to this end, Financiarul daily reads on Wednesday.
According to the newspaper, the first MWh to be delivered next year to the national grid will be produced by wind turbines.
'We took over two development projects of some wind turbine parks and concluded the pre-feasibility studies for 50 MW stations each, to be located in Dobrogea (south-east) and Muntenia (south)', announced the company's development manager Bogdan Badea.
The installation cost of a MW produced by wind turbine farms is on average 1.5 million euros. Thus, Electrica investment into the two parks could attain 150 million euros.
The most ambitious Electrica project in the alternative energy sector is represented by biomass-based stations. The company concluded a partnership with Austrian Warmebetriebe Co. for the construction of some production units of electricity and heating with a total capacity of 200 MW, estimating an investment of more than 400 million euros.
According to Badea, Electrica has in view several locations and negotiations are under way with town halls of some localities without a heating station.
In the field of energy production from hydro sources, Electrica concluded the feasibility study for the construction of three micro hydro power stations with a total capacity of 18 MW, located in Sibiu County (center). The investment value might reach 45 million euros.
Another zone increasingly attractive for Electrica is the production of energy from solar sources, following the legislated increase in the number of the green certificates granted for each megawatt derived from solar energy.
At present, the company submitted the needed documents for the attraction of European funds aimed at conducting an applicative study. 'If we assess the efficiency of such a system, we will take the next step, more precisely the development of a project of a power station based on solar energy', added the Electrica development manager.
