Erste Bank: BVB regresses to 2004 level
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 19 Ianuarie 2009
The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) strongly regressed its transactions and value going down to the level attained in 2004, the Erste Bank analysts warned on Friday.
As the result of the aggressive price plunges in 2008, the BVB market gauge and liquidity went back to the levels registered in 2004, as the average value of the daily transactions stood at 5.6 million euros, in 2008, reads the report the Austrian Erste Bank sent to Agerpres.
The Romanian capital market registered the deepest plunge worldwide, the report also says.
The market capitalization heavily depends on the banks, with 31 percent of the most representative 87 companies listed, the Erste Bank think-tank selected. Adding the SIFs, the figure grows to 37 percent. Worth noticing is also the weight of the oil and natural gas sector (38 percent) and the low level that the utility companies register, namely 7.6 percent.
Compared to other capital markets of Central and Eastern Europe, BVB can be seen as a market having a small, towards average capitalization, given that there are only two companies whose capitalization is higher than one billion euros, whereas only one company belongs to the 500 million - one billion euro category. Moreover, 18 companies have a market capitalization bigger than 50 million euros.
