bpv GRIGORESCU expands its Litigation and Arbitration practice with new partner

Bucharest, 20 January 2009. Starting January 2009, the legal practice of bpv GRIGORESCU sees the expansion of Litigation and Arbitration into a full-fledged practice area. The practice will be headed by Liz Minea who joined our firm as a partner.

The decision to expand the Litigation and Arbitration practice was triggered by the large number of client requests for litigation and arbitration services and by the need to complement the advisory practice with litigation knowledge and experience allowing us to design the best possible conflict prevention strategies.

Our estimates as to the contribution of the Litigation and Arbitration practice to the overall business of the firm are around 15-20% of total revenue. Our strong advisory background in commercial, corporate and regulatory matters provides our Litigation and Arbitration practice with the most needed expertise in dealing with a broad range of litigation matters and enables us to understand and adapt our litigation strategies.

While providing full-range litigation services, we differentiate from litigation practices of other law firms by placing a strong emphasis on administrative litigation, in particular antitrust, public procurement and tax litigation.

We advise and represent clients in all litigation and arbitration phases, including enforcement procedures, in the following areas: antitrust, banking and securities, civil and commercial litigation, commercial arbitration, corporate and insolvency, employment, environmental, insurance, intellectual property, product liability, public procurement, real estate and construction, zoning and planning, taxation.

Liz Minea will lead a team of 5 lawyers with mixed expertise, able to cover the actual workload on Litigation and Arbitration. The mixed expertise of the team will give us a valuable flexibility in resource allocation and thus we will adapt more easily to the nature of litigation that are triggered by the current economic context.

Our growth plans include the addition of two senior lawyers to the current Litigation and Arbitration team.

Liz Minea

Liz Minea advises in Litigation and Arbitration, Real Estate and Construction, Public Procurement and Concessions.

Liz Minea has joined bpv GRIGORESCU in 2009 as a Partner and leads the firm's Litigation and Arbitration practice. Previously she was a civil and commercial litigation partner with a prominent Romanian law firm specializing in white-collar defense and litigation.

Liz Minea brings to the firm the wealth of almost fourteen years of private litigation and arbitration experience in the areas of civil, commercial and administrative law. In addition, she has significant public office experience as a general secretary of an important local administration office.

Her recent work includes successfully representing a leading Romanian energy company and its chairman in litigation against a Romanian agency for moral damage claims first ever awarded in a case of this nature.

Also, she has recently represented the owners of a highly controversial property in Bucharest in successfully claiming back the property from the Romanian State.

Further, she has represented corporate and individual clients in high profile administrative litigation in the areas of public procurement, concessions, zoning and planning, expropriation and restitution.

Liz Minea complements her litigation work with advisory work in the areas of Real Estate and Public Procurement. She was part of the committee drafting the implementing regulations on expropriation for public interest and has been involved in the expropriation project for the construction of the highway A2 Bucharest-Constanta.

Liz Minea is a graduate of the University of Bucharest with degrees in Law and History. She advises in Romanian and English.
